#306 Draw Me Nearer

Words by Fanny J. Crosby, 1875 (1820-1915)

Music by William H. Doane (1832-1915)

I am thine, O Lord, I have heard thy voice,

and it told thy love to me;

but I long to rise in the arms of faith

and be closer drawn to thee.

Refrain

Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,

to the cross where thou hast died.

Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,

to thy precious, bleeding side.

Consecrate me now to thy service, Lord,

by the power of grace divine;

let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,

and my will be lost in thine.

Refrain

Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,

to the cross where thou hast died.

Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,

to thy precious, bleeding side.

O the pure delight of a single hour

that before thy throne I spend,

when I kneel in prayer, and with thee, my God,

I commune as friend with friend!

Refrain

Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,

to the cross where thou hast died.

Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,

to thy precious, bleeding side.

     Fanny Crosby wrote this hymn. The popular, blind hymn-writer wrote this hymn with Hebrews 10:22 in mind: Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith. William Doane, who wrote the tunes for many of Ms. Crosby's hymns, wrote this tune as well.
